Summer of 2020: The Beginning

It is apt that as ChelseaSthan starts it journey, we do so at the time when our beloved Chelsea is undergoing a revolution of sorts.

Where, at the end of the 2018-19 season, despite winning the Europa League finals against Arsenal, the future of Chelsea looked uncertain. One of our greatest players ever, and the best player in the team at the time, Eden Hazard was leaving the club to chase his childhood Madrid dreams, the much coveted Mauricio Sarri was leaving the Bridge, and to top it all, we had a transfer ban making the job of the incoming Manager even more challenging. No pundits, at the start of the 2019-20 season gave Chelsea even a slim chance of finishing in the top four.

However, what Lampard achieved in the 2019-20 season, is nothing short of extraordinary. Yes, the season was long, many times frustrating and full of ups and downs, but with the help of the youngsters from the Academy like Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount, Reece James, Fikayo Tomori and Billy Gilmour, and some under-rated experienced hands like Azpilicueta, Willian and Giroud, Lampard guided Chelsea to the top four finish, tied at points with Manchester United (finishing 3rd on goal difference) which had spent more than 200 Million Euros through the season. Lampard also guided Chelsea to the FA Cup Finals. If players like Pulisic, Kante, Loftus Cheek and Hudson Odoi had not remained sidelined through injuries for large parts of the season, and Kepa's form not dropped so shockingly, it is arguable that Chelsea could have done even better.

Finally the long season came to end and we have an exciting season to look forward to. To make up for lost time, Chelsea has entered the transfer market all guns blazing, securing, after a long time, truly world class and coveted talents like Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech, Ben Chilwell, Thiago Silva and Kai Havertz (who is all but confirmed). Chelsea have also strengthened for the future by signing Xavier Mbuyumba and Malang Sarr on free transfers from Barcelona and Nice respectively. It appears that Chelsea is not done yet, with Edouard Mendy being linked with Chelsea heavily to challenge Kepa for that No.1 spot and Chelsea look almost certain to strengthen in the Goalkeeping department.

On the eve of such an exciting season, what better time for us at ChelseaSthan to begin our journey following our much beloved Blues. Lets hope that this season brings Chelsea all the success in the World.
